Hymn Stanza: Commemoration of Elijah
The annual commemoration of the Holy Prophet Elijah is 20 July. I wrote this stanza as part of the 2010 – 2011 hymn of the year for St. Paul Lutheran High School. It can be sung as the middle stanza of the hymn By All Your Saints in Warfare (tune: King’s Lynn) or to a number of other tunes with the 7676 D meter.
Elijah called Your anger
Upon the evil land—
Its king and queen and prophets,
And gods made by man’s hand.
We praise You for his valor
Before the priests of Baal.
He trusted You to save him;
Your mercy did not fail.
