Hymn Stanza: Commemoration of Jeremiah
Sunday marks the annual the commemoration of the Holy Prophet Jeremiah. I wrote this stanza as part of the 2010 – 2011 hymn of the year for St. Paul Lutheran High School. It can be sung as the middle stanza of the hymn By All Your Saints in Warfare (tune: King’s Lynn) or to a number of other tunes with the 7676 D meter.
For Jeremiah, prophet,
We praise you, God most high.
While still a lad, You called him
Your holy Word to cry.
Though faithless shepherds scattered
The sheep of Israel,
He prophesied the coming
Of rescue without fail.
