Hymn Stanza for the Commemoration of Elisha
Today is the commemoration of the Holy Prophet Elisha. I wrote this stanza as part of the 2010 – 2011 hymn of the year for St. Paul Lutheran High School. It can be sung as the middle stanza of the hymn By All Your Saints in Warfare (tune: King’s Lynn) or a number of other tunes with the 7676 D meter.
We praise You for Elisha,
Who boldly spoke Your Word,
Who raised the child of Shunem
Because his prayer You heard.
His deeds foreshadowed Jesus,
Who likewise healed and fed,
Who reached out with compassion,
And gave life to the dead.
Based on 2 Kings 2:15-25; 4:1-44
