Sermon: Ash Wednesday
Wednesday 13 February AD 2013
Title: Rescue from the Rubble (MP3 Audio)
Summary: The Lord must shake us free from clinging to false hope in a fallen world. He must also rescue us who are trapped in the debris of a sin-tainted Creation. Through Word and Sacrament, He does both, disabusing us of foolish reliance on self and the things of this life while giving us something truly solid and substantial — Himself — as our Rock.
When the Lord “roars,” He scatters the proud and shatters the wicked. At the same time, He also rallies the weak and rescues the captives. The Lion of Judah has overcome Satan, the ancient Dragon. He shook the gates of hell and burst its bars, freeing the captives and serving notice that the Devil’s days are numbered.
Text: The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
And he said: “The Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.” Amos 1:1-2

NB: For some reason, a few people have had problems trying to play the inline audio if Windows Media is their default MP3 player. If this occurs, you can either change to QuickTime or another default browser player, copy and paste the link directly into a selected player, or download it to your computer, where it seems to work regardless of which player. Several folks have suggested VLC Player from VideoLAN.
