Sermon: Advent 1C (OT)
2 December AD 2012
Title: Past, Present, Future, Forever (MP3 Audio)
Summary: It’s no humbug: Haunted by the “ghosts” of the past and the future, we too often ignore the present and the forever. However, the Holy Ghost, God’s Spirit of truth, directs us to receive Christ’s gifts of Word and Sacrament now in anticipation of the coming Day when all of the Lord’s promises come to final fulfillment and we enter into eternal life.
Text: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely.
“And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’” Jeremiah 33:14-16
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:15-18

NB: For some reason, a few people have had problems trying to play the inline audio if Windows Media is their default MP3 player. If this occurs, you can either change to QuickTime or another default browser player, copy and paste the link directly into a selected player, or download it to your computer, where it seems to work regardless of which player. Several folks have suggested VLC Player from VideoLAN.
Other Readings: Psalm 25:1-10; 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13; Luke 19:28-40
