Fool Me Once ...
The old adage says, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
After Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced that they would no longer be funding Planned Parenthood, I announced that I would renew contributions to that organization. This I did, through an online contribution.
However, intense pressure from PP supporters and much of the media led to a reversal of that decision. This was the largest waffle I’ve witnessed in years.
Because of this, I wrote the following to Komen:
I called 877.465.6636 (877.GO.KOMEN), option 4 to ask for a return of the contribution our family gave after you withdrew funding from Planned Parenthood, dropping pro-SGK banners from my web sites, and removing withdrawing all support for your organization until you focus on the central issue of breast cancer and end any support to organizations that in any way espouse an anti-life philosophy. For even if the money you give to PP is only for screenings and the like, it still frees money for their more nefarious purposes.
I'm no prophet but I foresee even more damage to your fundraising, research, and outreach efforts following this flip-flop.
I’ll continue to vote with my wallet as appropriate. However, I think that I’ll wait a bit longer to make sure that the change I support is genuine and permanent. As the Who sang, I “won’t get fooled again.”
