Sermon: Michael Kaker Funeral

25 October AD 2013

Title: Mountaintop Rescue (MP3 Audio)

Summary: Who are funerals for? Generally speaking, they’re for the mourners. Who are they about? The world would normally answer, “The deceased.”

Sorry, world. Today’s text tells us that “the Lord will make ... a feast.” Therefore, a Christian funeral tells us what God did for our departed family member or friend and what He did, does, and continues to do for us.

The Lord feeds, heals, restores, forgives, renews, and resurrects. He makes all things new. He promises that in the new heavens and the new earth, we will also be made new and holy in body, mind, and spirit.

The Lord Will Make a Feast Text: On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Isaiah 25:6-9

NB: For some reason, a few people have had problems trying to play the inline audio if Windows Media is their default MP3 player. If this occurs, you can either change to QuickTime or another default browser player, copy and paste the link directly into a selected player, or download it to your computer, where it seems to work regardless of which player. Several folks have suggested VLC Player from VideoLAN.
